About a dozen condos were damaged when a three-alarm fire broke out in a Meadowlands Parkway complex Monday night, officials said.

The fire was contained to one unit at the Harmon Cove Towers, but several others suffered heavy smoke and water damage, officials from the Secaucus police and fire departments said.

First responders received a call around 8:30 p.m. from a passerby who said he saw flames coming from the tower. Firefighters arrived and found the fire was coming from a condo on the fourth floor of tower three, officials said.

Secaucus Fire Department Deputy Chief Carl Leppin said there was "substantial smoke" in the building and "extremely hot conditions" because of the building's concrete and steel construction. Officials said firefighters had some difficulty reaching the unit at first and that there were no sprinklers inside.
